Award-winning British-Nigerian radio presenter Simileoluwa Audrey Adejumo (Simi Drey) discussed her past relationship and canceled wedding.
Simi revealed friends pressured her to marry despite her parents’ concerns. After engagement, she felt unfulfilled. Her ex-fiancé wasn’t abusive or unfaithful, but Simi sought equal love and respect.
“My ex and I didn’t have a perfect relationship… My parents never put pressure on me, but friends asked ‘when will you get married?’” Simi said.
“Eventually he proposed, but I had apprehensions. My mum warned me, ‘Simi, do not do this’. I ended the engagement due to unhappiness and faced criticism.”
Simi remained single until meeting husband Julian Flosbach in 2019. “I wanted to marry with worth… To be single and happy is better than married and miserable. If I don’t feel respected or superior because of title or finances, it’s a no.”
Simi and Julian married in 2023 and welcomed their first child.
