Super Eagles Star Moses Simon Joins Paris FC In Historic Transfer.

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has officially signed a three-year contract with newly promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first Nigerian male footballer to join the French capital club. The 29-year-old forward, who completed his medical on Tuesday, will remain with Paris FC until June 2028, following a €7 million transfer from FC Nantes, where he spent six remarkable seasons.

Simon’s move to Paris FC ends his prolific tenure with Nantes, where he made 201 appearances, scoring 37 goals and providing 42 assists across all competitions. His final season with Les Canaris was his most impressive, contributing eight goals and 10 assists in 32 Ligue 1 matches, helping the club avoid relegation. Paris FC, backed by the influential Arnault family and Red Bull, announced the signing on Wednesday via their official X account, stating: “The Nigerian winger, with nearly 180 Ligue 1 matches under his belt, joins Paris FC until 2028. 🔵⚪️ #CertifiéParis #BienvenueMoses”.

The transfer, hailed as a major coup for Paris FC as they prepare for their first Ligue 1 campaign in 46 years, sees Simon nearly double his weekly earnings from €38,000 at Nantes to approximately €75,000, equating to a monthly salary of around €300,000. The deal reportedly fended off interest from Ligue 1 giants Lyon and Marseille, as well as Premier League club Everton, with Simon opting for Paris FC’s ambitious project and the opportunity to secure French citizenship.

Simon, a product of Nigeria’s GBS Academy, expressed his gratitude to Nantes in an emotional farewell on X: “Six seasons giving everything with my heart. Sprints, crosses, thrills and memories engraved forever. Thank you FC Nantes, thank you Beaujoire. I leave with pride and a piece of this club in my heart”. His contributions at Nantes included winning the 2022 Coupe de France and competing in the Europa League.

Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr praised the move, describing Simon as “disciplined, level-headed, and hardworking,” predicting he will “make history with Paris FC”. The winger, known for his pace, flair, and precise crossing, is expected to be a cornerstone of Paris FC’s squad as they aim to establish themselves in Ligue 1.

Simon’s signing has sparked excitement among fans, with posts on X reflecting pride in his achievement and optimism for his impact at Paris FC. The club is also reportedly pursuing other high-profile signings, including DR Congo defender Chancel Mbemba, to bolster their squad for the 2025/26 season.

As Simon embarks on this new chapter, his move underscores his growing legacy both on the pitch and off it, through his Simoiben Academy in Nigeria, which continues to nurture young talents like Brentford’s Benjamin Fredrick.
