In anticipation of the release of water from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam, the Taraba State government has taken proactive steps by establishing a flood control team across all 168 wards of the state.
Governor Agbu Kefas made this announcement during a media briefing held on Saturday at the Government House in Jalingo.
Governor Kefas highlighted the severe challenges posed by flooding in the state, which have adversely affected the lives and livelihoods of many residents.
He emphasized that the newly formed flood control team would not only focus on emergency management but also on implementing long-term measures to prevent future disasters.
“Our state is facing significant challenges due to flooding, affecting the lives and livelihoods of many of our citizens.
In response, we are committed to finding lasting solutions to these challenges, working closely with experts and communities to mitigate the impact of flooding on our people,” Kefas stated.
The governor further explained that the establishment of the flood control team is part of a broader initiative under the Taraba Development Master Plan 2023-2050.
Governor Kefas also reiterated his administration’s commitment to various other initiatives, including free and compulsory education, health sector investments, and enhanced security measures.
He highlighted ongoing collaborations with the military, security agencies, traditional institutions, and neighboring states, including counterparts in Cameroon.
In addition, the governor pledged to uphold local government autonomy in line with the Supreme Court ruling and expressed his commitment to implementing the federal government’s minimum wage policy, ensuring the welfare of civil servants in the state.
Governor Kefas concluded by congratulating the people of Taraba State on the 33rd anniversary of the state’s creation, urging residents to unite and work together towards building a prosperous future.
