Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), revealed that more than 2.5 million students have been registered on the Tertiary Education, Research, Applications and Services (TERAS) platform.
Echono emphasized that while the platform has surplus capacity, priority is given to public institutions before extending it to private universities.
Speaking at the 2nd Registrars’ Workshop and 75th Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU), Echono highlighted the agency’s collaboration with tertiary institutions to maximize the utilization of ICT infrastructure for administrative and research purposes.
TERAS, launched by TETFund in 2023, serves as a centralized hub for tertiary education services, fostering collaboration, efficiency, and innovation. The platform provides various capabilities and functionalities for institutions, students, researchers, and the entire education ecosystem.
Echono stressed the importance of student usage of the platform, expressing concerns about the need for effective utilization of available resources. He underscored the significance of data in the educational system and emphasized efforts to ensure credible and up-to-date information for effective planning.
Furthermore, Echono announced TETFund’s initiative to connect all National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centers nationwide with ICT fiber infrastructure to enhance access to resources for all students.
Ife Oluwale, National Chairman of ARNU, emphasized the importance of capacity development for registrars, stating that trained staff are invaluable assets to any organization. Oluwale commended TETFund’s efforts in supporting the training of registrars and appealed to university proprietors and government agencies to prioritize personnel training.
The workshop aimed to equip registrars with the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt to current trends in university administration globally, ensuring efficiency and quality in their work.
