President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa and Luanda, Angola to allow for further security briefings following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
The President made the decision after receiving a request from the governor of Kwara State. He has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area, directing the police to go after the bandits responsible for the church attack.
Tinubu had been scheduled to leave Abuja today to attend the 20th G20 Summit of leaders in South Africa and later proceed to Angola for the 7th AU EU Summit. However, the insecurity incidents prompted him to suspend his departure.
He is now awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as from the police and the Department of State Services on the situation in Kwara.
President Tinubu also restated his instruction to security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State and ensure they return home safely.
