Tinubu Reconstitutes Governing Councils For Federal Tertiary Institutions

President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the reconstitution of Governing Councils and Boards for federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria. 

This announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by Nnamdi Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary for General Services in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The reconstitution aims to enhance the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions. According to the statement, “His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, has approved the reconstitution of Governing Councils and Boards of Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education for the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions across the country.”

A total of 560 individuals have been appointed to these governing councils and boards. For the University of Ibadan, Chief Bisi Akande has been appointed as the Chairman of the governing council, with Alexander Ajipe, Nelson Alapa, Ifeoma Nwankwo, and Prof. Emmanuel Alo serving as board members.





Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) will chair the governing council of the University of Lagos. The council members include Bello Kumo, Prof. Idowu Mark, Niyi Akande, and Bola Njoku. Isa Yuguda has been appointed to chair the board of the National Open University, with Goddy Etta, Yomi Balogun, Deborah Apah, and Hingah Biem as council members.

Siyan Oyeweso has been named the head of the governing council for Obafemi Awolowo University. Other council members are Edward Sarki, Joseph Abaagu, Wahaab Owokoniran, and Abubakar Kachaalla.

Additionally, Adebayo Shittu, Muiz Banire, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa have been appointed as chairpersons for the governing boards of David Umahi University of Medicine in Ebonyi State, Federal University of Transportation in Katsina State, and Federal Polytechnic in Ugep, Cross River State, respectively.
