Former home-based Super Eagles player Bright Esieme has tragically passed away after a brief illness, as confirmed by his elder brother, Osimiri Esieme.
Esieme, aged 32, left a significant mark in Nigerian football, notably representing the country during the 2014 Orange African Nations Championship in South Africa under Coach Stephen Keshi’s guidance.
His versatility and dedication were evident as he secured a starting position in the Super Eagles squad during the tournament. Filling in as a right-back in the match against Morocco due to Solomon Kwambe’s suspension, Esieme showcased his skills and commitment on the field.
Throughout his career, Esieme demonstrated his adaptability, playing various positions such as left-back in the absence of Benjamin Francis and excelling as a holding midfielder in crucial games.
His contributions played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ commendable third-place finish in the tournament, notably securing a victory over Zimbabwe.
Esieme began his professional football journey with Bukola Babes on July 10, 2010, and went on to represent prestigious clubs like Enyimba FC, Enugu Rangers, Niger Tornadoes, and Warri Wolves, showcasing his talent and dedication.
