Udeogaranya Calls President Tinubu’s Participation In Arab-Islamic Summit A “Constitutional Misconduct”.
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant Charles Udeogaranya has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s recent participation in the Arab-Islamic Summit, labelling it a “gross misconduct” and an alleged violation of Nigeria’s constitutional principles. Udeogaranya argued that Tinubu’s actions at the summit undermine Nigeria’s secular status, claiming they constitute an impeachable offence.
In his statement, Udeogaranya highlighted that Nigeria, as a religiously diverse and secular nation, should refrain from aligning itself with Arab affairs. He described Tinubu’s representation of Nigeria at the Riyadh-based summit as not only inappropriate but as disregarding the country’s cultural and constitutional values. According to him, Nigeria’s secular position and ethnic diversity should take precedence in shaping its international alliances and engagements.
“Nigeria is a non-Arab nation and the most populous black nation, with various ethnic orientations and insignificant Arab-leaning ethnic groups,” Udeogaranya noted, cautioning that such diplomatic decisions risk misrepresenting Nigeria’s identity on the global stage.
He further urged the National Assembly to advise President Tinubu against actions that may not align with Nigeria’s secular and multicultural stance. Udeogaranya emphasised the importance of maintaining international alliances that resonate more closely with Nigeria’s diverse interests.
President Tinubu’s visit to the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh was made at the invitation of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with a focus on the escalating tensions in the Middle East. The summit marks a continuation of diplomatic dialogues following last year’s conference in Riyadh.
